AMCTO is a Certified Educational Institution. Tuition fees are tax-deductible.
Our education courses provide a solid foundation for those pursuing a career in municipal government. Some of the courses listed below can be applied toward achieving one of AMCTO's Diploma Programs; Diploma in Municipal Administration (DMA).
In addition, our courses provide the education competencies required for AMCTO's Certified Municipal Officer (CMO) accreditation, the most comprehensive accreditation program in Canada for local government professionals.
These courses are offered through correspondence with direct contact with your marker/facilitator. This format of learning allows the adult learner to get the most out of distance learning education.
The Municipal Administration Program, Municipal Accounting and Finance Program, Municipal Law Program, Parliamentary Meeting Protocol Course and OACA's Primer on Planning Course by correspondence twice a year:
- Winter Term runs from February to May (registration opens Dec. 1)
- Fall Term runs from September to December (registration opens July 2)
Most programs consist of more than one unit. It is recommended that one unit be taken at a time and where there is more than one unit, that they are taken in order starting with the first unit. Each unit consists of a number of assignments and an end-of-unit exam. There is an Assignment Schedule to follow when taking any of the units and the schedules are available when registration is open (click here). Generally, there are two weeks between each assignment due date and three weeks from the final assignment due date, to the writing of the end-of-unit exam. However, the schedule will provide specifics for each course and/or unit.
